AWS re:Invent 2016 Session Planner available: Reserved Seating and talks not to miss
The official AWS re:invent 2016 Session Planner is now available, and we’re keeping an eye on interesting session prompts that have a cloud cost management focus. Read on to hear about how AWS is reserving session seating for attendees this year (huge!) and learn about a few talks that we’re excited about.
Reserved Seating available at re:Invent 2016
AWS added a new Reserved Seating function to this year’s event, which is great news to attendees wanting to ensure they can experience re:Invent to the fullest. According to our own staff, customers, and past attendees, it can be quite a challenge to attend your favorite subject or exciting new session due to limited seating or trouble accessing talks in the busy venue.
This year, when attendees add breakout sessions to their AWS re:Invent calendars, they will also automatically reserve a seat in that session. This could deliver some peace of mind to folks wanting to ensure they get the most out of this amazing time. Folks who sign up after sessions are filled will be added to a waiting list. They’ll fill seats as they become available.
According to AWS, the session scheduling tool will go live about a month before re:Invent. We’ll keep tabs on the release of this tool as well, and let our community know when it’s out.
Know where to go for your events
AWS also added Full-Day Technical Deep Dives, Breakout Sessions, and an Industry Focus Pre-Day to its available sessions for 2016. For people wanting to maximize on getting the most out of re:Invent 2016 (and earning the right to party hard later on), know which venues contain which re:Invent events.

Cloud cost management tracks to not miss
We’re delivering our own breakout session this year called, “Driving AWS Cost Efficiency at Your Company.” If wrangling cloud costs and pushing AWS efficiency is a goal for 2017 and on, we recommend attending this talk. The new Reserved Seating function ensures that folks won’t miss a beat once signed up (once it’s released!).
Another upcoming session that could deliver great cloud cost management tips and concepts is “ENT303 – Manage Cost Optimization at Scale.” Any conversations around wrangling growing cloud costs should be interesting ones!
We’ve had the privilege of helping companies scale their AWS usage (and costs) and have seen the growth in cost and responsibilities first-hand. We hope this talk focuses on how having a functional cost management strategy in place keeps Ops, IT, and finance on the same page. We look forward to seeing what kind of great cloud cost management tips come from this breakout session.

There are a handful of breakout sessions that are great for users wanting to learn about EC2 Reserved Instances and how to get the most out of the AWS EC2 catalog. Here are a few talks that stand out to us:
- CMP202 – Get the Most Out of Amazon EC2: A Deep Dive on the Reserved, On-Demand, Dedicated, and Spot Purchasing Models: This pricing-focused session can help breakdown how AWS bills for EC2 and identify the known ways to save on compute in the long-run. After this session, visit our booth and we can help clarify any questions that you might have about how to manage cloud costs and save with EC2.
- CMP203 – Introduction to AWS Compute: Everything you need to know about AWS Compute solutions: This sounds like a great session for folks wanting an overview of all of the available compute offerings that AWS has to offer.
